TAKING ZIMBABWEAN DESIGN TO THE WORLD
At Haus of Stone Africa, we view fashion not merely as attire, but as atmosphere — a living portal connecting heritage, tactile craftsmanship, and contemporary African design.
Founded by cultural strategist and designer Danayi Chapfika-Madondo, Haus of Stone Africa operates as a multidisciplinary creative house, retail environment, and cultural ecosystem built around three core pillars.
Rooted in circular design and slow fashion, our signature collections honour artisanal techniques — from natural fibre weaving and organic hand-painted motifs to macramé. Each piece is designed to tell a story, transcending seasonal trends to create timeless, soul-stirring apparel.
A roving, curated, collaborative retail and exhibition space. It serves as a launchpad and sanctuary for regional talent, spotlighting emerging designers, textile artists, and artisanal craftspeople who share our dedication to slow, conscious creation.
Believing that true industry growth stems from shared knowledge, our platform hosts dialogues, workshops, and creative exchanges. We bring together designers, cultural practitioners, and industry leaders to discuss sustainable practices, creative strategy, and the future of African fashion.
Together, these three arms form a unified house: celebrating the beauty of handcraft, building a collective economy for regional creators, and reframing the narrative of Zimbabwean and African fashion on the global stage. All our work converges at the intersection of creative expression and commerce.
We curate and elevate handcrafted African design, transforming raw creativity into sustainable, world-class luxury.
To champion sustainable, handcrafted African luxury on a global stage — building a curated sanctuary for dynamic experimentation, collaborative growth, and cultural preservation.
"Cloth as a Portal" — the belief that textiles are sacred vessels for healing, memory, and reimagined futures. Portals, dimensions, heritage: this is central, not decoration.
The label founded in Harare in 2018; the Showroom unveiled in July 2023 as a roving concept space; evolved in 2024 into an experiential pop-up shopping concept with strategic lifestyle partners.
FOUNDER, PROGRAMMES LEAD & CREATIVE DIRECTOR · CULTURAL CURATOR & FASHION PRACTITIONER
Danayi Chapfika-Madondo is a Harare-based fashion practitioner working at the intersection of cloth, consciousness, and culture. Grounded in her philosophy, "Cloth as a Portal," she views textiles as mediums for healing, memory, and heritage preservation.
She is the founder of Haus of Stone, a slow-fashion brand crafting experiential apparel through intuitive handcraft and circular design. Blending over five years of experience as a creative image consultant, art director, and program coordinator, Danayi bridges traditional craftsmanship with modern commerce — guiding brands, leading masterclasses, and elevating African design narratives globally.
Our work has been recognised by national arts bodies, industry associations and international cultural institutions — from Harare to Amsterdam and Paris.

A slow-fashion house's whole claim rests on the hands doing the work. Macramé, crochet and hand-loom weaving — the grandmother skills of the Ruka Range — are carried by these artisans.
